EROS/ION
June 2012
Eros/ion is an installed performance that explores our categorizations of perception; the imagined divisions and boundaries between our senses. While we live as if all the things we hear are sound, and all the things we feel are touch, these "discrete" experiences actually exist along a spectrum. Eros/ion is a forced synesthesia of audible and tactile experiences, embodied as a series of delicate sculptures. These sculptures are broken down over time by the physical, tactile power of sound waves from a sound composition played through the boxes attached to the sculptures. Over time the sculptures succumb to the tactile, destructive properties of the sound.
Made as a thesis project for the completion of the MFA degree in Design at Technology at Parsons.
